National Young Leaders Day

Writing- National Young Leaders Day

I woke up got ready and went to school, we all got picked up from Solly and made our way to Dunedin,
when we got out of the car we slapped our wristbands on and walked inside. When we made it to our
seats, all we could hear was music. When the thing started to go, it was silent but there were these
two loud voices and they were the hosts, Christian Gallen and Liz Alexander. They introduced
themselves and the first guest is...Amanda Wilson. She talked about herself and about horses, man
she loves horses. She said that she was really poor and she had to wear second hand clothes. Her
family owned over 80 horses all over the world but she has 18 with her in New Zealand. She also
said that she got picked on and she said you should never change.
Off she went and in came Lima Sopoaga, well actually he didn’t but a replacement came and I don't
know his name but he was a rugby player. He said you don't have to have the best stuff to play
and if you shoot for the moon and miss at least you will get the stars. Off he went and we went into
another room and had our morning tea.
We went back in and there was… Jono Naylor he said he was a politician and he said that his
favourite thing was to be a father and a grandfather. And bye bye. Ok and now came...Riley Hathaway,
(don't tell the others but she was my favourite) she said she was scared of the ocean, crabs and
seaweed. When she was in the water when the water level was up to her knees then she would start
swimming so the crabs wouldn't get her. Now she goes swimming with the sharks and she loves to
help clean up plastic and rubbish off the beach. She made her way off the stage and we went to have
lunch. Later that day we went bach to hear Te Waka McLeod and James Beck teach us maori.
I forgot what they said but before long they were gone and Vince Harder came on. He sang and
danced for us and it was really inspirational. Sadly we had to go. I recommend it for others because
it was a really good day.
